Every year’s vintage brings something different and unique to the Le Pommier Wine range. This year we’ve got a new flagship wine and couldn’t resist designing a new label to capture the essence and history of the wine.
What makes the wine? The wine label or the actual product? In a world where design has taken over, and a lot of our decisions are subconsciously influenced by brands, we tend to first look at the label and then only buy according to taste. Wine labels already tell a story without you having to read a single word on the bottle. The perfect wine would follow form as well as function, telling a story and delivering the experience via taste and smell.
At the Le Pommier Wine Estate we strive to bring original stories to our wines, we believe that’s the most innovative way of capturing the farm’s history. That’s why, this time around, we decided also to get our Facebook and Instagram fans involved in the creative process. The task was simple, graphic designers from MV Communications developed a few labels capturing the Olivia Semillon Sauvignon Blanc’s look and feel. Then our social media audience voted for the new wine label they liked best, and gave their opinions on where it could be improved. Together we made history!
The final wine label the audience voted for was everything that Owner, Melanie van Schalkwyk, wanted. Olivia was Melanie’s grandmother and this was a project close to her heart. Her grandmother played a big role in her life, and she described her as “love personified”. It was a great honour for Melanie to dedicate this wine to her memory.
The famous Jonathan’s Malbec also got a facelift with a new label, in remembrance of the bastard and friend.
Jonathan was the very embodiment of Le Pommier Malbec, smooth and good to have around. A bull with an attitude, he was also quite mischievous. One year Jonathan broke into the vineyards and consumed most of the total harvest, illustrating his good taste.
Keep an eye out for the new Olivia and Jonathan’s wines, you can buy them directly at the Wine Estate or online on our website. Did you vote for your favourite label online? Share your thoughts on our new labels.
