Jonathan’s Malbec shares the name with the mischievous bull that decided to break into the vineyard and devour most of the harvest for that year. Legend has it that this specific bull, inherited from the family that started the John Platter, so he should know his stuff. Share in Jonathan’s favourite cultivar at Le Pommier while enjoying a juicy steak under the big oaks.
Nature is full of beauty, but the most beautiful scenery is right in our backyard. Trying to capture the beauty of the Banhoek Valley is not an easy task that’s why you need to experience and see this for yourself.
We agree that the Stellenbosch region is one of the best regions to harvest the most mouth-watering Sauvignon Blanc. Our Olivia Semillon Sauvignon Blanc is an excellent accompaniment to our prawn and avo starter, or delicious prawn dish. With its toasty sweetness from the touch of old French oak and lees contact that complements the smooth and creamy texture, this wine is right to enjoy now or even for the next two years. Of course our easy drinking Sauvignon Blanc is a must try this summer.
The Simonsberg Mountain is named after Simon van der Stel, first governor of the Cape and founder and namesake of Stellenbosch. Simonsberg is located between the towns of Stellenbosch, Paarl and Franschhoek forming a 1.399-meter high mountain. Astonishing to see and we hear it’s quite a travel to the top if you enjoy a good hike. You might also see the remains of the old Silvermine, and listen to the story of one of the earliest white colour crime in South Africa.
The Jonkershoek reserve is an easy 16 minutes drive from Le Pommier Wine Estate which enables our guests to spend the day at the reserve for a day filled with hiking and admiring the creatures of the earth in their natural habitat. The reserve is about 9 800 hectares and includes a smaller reserve of about 204 hectares, Assegaaibosch Nature Reserve. The smaller reserve is home to the historical Assegaaibosch farmstead, a national monument built in 1792, while both reserves are World Heritage Sites.
We have two self-catering units which include a couples unit with one bedroom and a family unit with two bedrooms. Both units give you the feeling of being at home with a private swimming pool and braai area and of course the stunning views of the Banhoek Valley.
Of Course, we are just 6 minutes away from Stellenbosch filled with fun activities for each. From touring the Winelands to taking a tour on foot of the beautiful Stellenbosch village. You will never run out of things to do in Stellenbosch.
