We are very proud to announce that our Le Pommier Sauvignon Blanc 2014 has won a bronze medal and great value award at The Old Mutual Trophy Wine Show 2015.
The Old Mutual Trophy Wine Show is South Africa’s premier wine competition that recognises the top local wines and winemakers, and honours excellence in the wine industry.
Judging for The Old Mutual Trophy Wine Show took place from 4 – 7 May at the Grande Roche Hotel in Paarl. Judging panels comprising three judges (and an associate judge) tasted and scored the submissions in each class by means of the 100-point scoring system:
Trophy = 98 points and over (A champion: highest-scoring gold medal winner in the class)
Gold = 90 points and over (superlative, world-class)
Silver = 80 to 89 points (excellent, wine of distinction)
Bronze = 70 to 79 points (good to very good, fine character)
A GREAT VALUE award was also attributed to medallists priced at under R75 per 750ml bottle for white, fortified, Rosé and Blanc de Noir wines, and under R95 per 750ml for red, sparkling and unfortified dessert wines.
At last year’s show, Judge and panel chair Michael Fridjhon had the following to say about the show’s award system:
“We enjoy our reputation as the most rigorous of wine shows. We like people to think that a bronze medal here is like a bronze medal at the Olympics – not just a prize for having entered your wine – that you really had to have produced something of quality in order to obtain the recognition of a bronze medal. “
Out of 1089 entries, 20 wines were awarded trophies, 12 gold, 88 silver and 430 bronze.
Le Pommier Sauvignon Blanc 2014 was awarded a bronze medal with a score of 76 as well as a GREAT VALUE award. Our Sauvignon Blanc was also recently awarded a Best Value award at the recent RECM Best Value Tasting.
